I know it's said that it's better to buy "salon" shampoos and conditioners, but for those poor people like me what is the best "over the counter" shampoo and conditioner? I have usually dry hair and is often frizzy. Can anyone please help me know what kind to buy?

I swear by Panteen for curly hair for both shampoo and conditioner. And this kind is always on sale someplace so I can keep the cost down.

I like to use a frizz reducing product or Pantene Smoothing Cream. Those seem to help with frizz control.

Chemical processing, using hot rollers, curling irons and dryers will make it worse and dry it out more. Don't shampoo more than once in a washing and use an intensive conditioner 1-3 times per week.

You can actually use a little bit of extra light vrigin olive oil on your hair, wet your hair, rub some into your hair and then shampoo out....that is natural and is soothing to your dry hair and frizzies!

Depending on what your hair color is, the John Freida line for colored hair is great! I use the Brilliant Brunette. You can also get Redken at a beauty supply store or at a salon. It's fairly inexpensive, about $10 for shampoo and $10 for conditioner, but it works really well! I like using the Smooth Down and the So Soft.

Homemade Shampoo

Shampoo is just one type of liquid soap. It is usually made with vegetable oils rather than animal fat, and with glycerine and alcohol added during the soap making process.

The basic ingredients for regular soap are lye (potash leached from ashes), fat (animal tallow) or oil, and water.

Try the following recipe for a gentle homemade shampoo:

Ingredients:

* 2 lb. 10 oz. olive oil
* 1 lb. 7 oz of solid-type vegetable shortening
* 1 lb. coconut oil
* 10 1/4 oz. lye
* 2 pt. water
* 1 1/2 oz. glycerine
* 1/2 oz. alcohol
* 1 1/2 oz castor oil

Preparation:

NOTE: You will need a candy thermometer to test temperatures.

1. Mix oils together.
2. Place in a container and set the container in a large pan.
3. Mix the lye solution - pour the lye into an enamel coated container of 2 pints of cold water and stir steadily. (Caution: Read warning on Lye container )
4. When cooled, pour lye solution into a glass container and set in another large pan.
5. Bring both to between 95° and 98° F - this will mean pouring either cold or hot water into the pans, depending on the original temperature of the ingredients.
6. Add the lye solution to the oils, pouring in a steady stream while continuing to stir. The mixture will turn opaque and brownish, then will lighten. It's ready when its surface can support a drop of mixture for a moment. The consistency should be like sour cream.
7. Stir in: 1 1/2 oz. glycerine, 1/2 oz. alcohol and 1 1/2 oz castor oil.
8. Add any colorants or scents you desire.
9. Now, you can pour the mixture into molds and allow to harden, then make the shampoo as you need it by shaving off flakes and boiling in water until they dissolve about 1 pound of shavings per gallon of water.
10. Or, you can add more water to mixture, boil, and allow to cool, then place in bottles for use.

Hi! You have to buy any shampoo and conditioner for your type of hair but you have to buy differents shampoos and conditioners and alternate them.
Also you should buy hair treatments and apply it in your hair one time per week.
I hope i can help you and sorry for my english, i know it's not good.

I know it sounds really crazy, but when I want to straighten my hair, I use my kids shampoo plus conditioner(suave for kids). It isnt as harsh as our shampoos (or I dont think it is) and then will put my normal suave conditioner in my hair... and it does great, less frizz... not as stripped clean... and I use a good leave in conditioner/creme....(thermasilk)

I have trouble with dry hair unless I use conditioners with shampoo so I use Pantene with conditioner for normal hair and it does great!

all shampoos and conditioners do the same thing. buy cheap shampoo and cheap conditioner then treat yourself to a decent anti-frizz spray like friz-eaze or a spray on hair wax.
