If you're online asking this question, do a yahoo search on genital herpes. It will answer many questions you have. There are two types of herpes you should be worrying about. HSV-1 is what usually causes cold sores around the mouth. Most people have this. HSV-2 is genital herpes. Yes, you can have HSV-2 orally and HSV-1 genitally. 90% of the people who have herpes don't even know they have it. Anyways! Back to the point. Yes, you can get herpes from giving her oral sex IF she's having a breakout. You will get it in your mouth, it won't magically show up in your genital area unless you go down on yourself or something :) The virus will travel along the nerve to the nerve cluster at the base of your spine and lay there dormant until something triggers it, whereupon it will travel back up the nerve to the area in which it originally infected...I think. This is what I understood from the websites I checked out. If you do get it from her by giving her oral sex, you will be able to pass it on to anyone you kiss or give oral sex to from then on. Let's put it this way...if someone had HSV-2, and is having an outbreak, someone who gives that person oral sex and catches it, then kisses that person, the same person who has it genitally now has it orally too. Scary how easy it is to pass on. Unfortunately, there are times when she's (or you if you decide to do this) not going to have any symptoms of a breakout, but will still be shedding the virus. You can never tell. The virus is usually transmitted through contact with...how to phrase this...areas with thin skin? Glands? Sensitive areas? I haven't heard of anyone getting breakouts on their hands, or arms, or other such areas. If you two do have sex, just a warning...the condom doesn't protect your entire genital area. The third link has some very good information. I would suggest you show her these links so she can know more about what she has and how it's spread, it seems she's not very educated about it.

If she does have herpes than yes, you can catch it by giving her oral sex, especially if she has the possibility of any active sores.
That is how it is transmitted, through contact, whether oral or otherwise.
Even if there aren't any sores it's still possible to transmit the herpes virus.
I would suggest you use some kind of protective barrier between your mouth and her vagina. A dental dam or even saran wrap will work as long as you don't have any direct contact between your mouth and her vagina.
Good luck.

Herpes can be spread even when there are no outbreaks present. If you do oral be sure to use what is called an oral dam. it is like a condom it can protect you during oral sex but nothing is 100%. It is placed over the genitals so no actual physical contact actually occurs.

Yes, but only if there are no sores present
If you want to be safer, as well as have some peace of mind, use a condom (for oral sex on a man) or an oral dam (for oral sex on a woman). An oral dam is a thin, square piece of latex that is placed over the clitoris, vulva, or anus.

You can only get genital herpes on your mouth if you give her oral when she has the sores. If she only gets the sores every month or two then it's fine to give her oral. Also you can have sex as long as theres no sore. When she feels tingling don't have sex cause that means theres a sore coming up. See your doctor and get the facts about herpes book it helps.

Hell yes. And you're gonna have it forever man, even when you are an old man and you don't care about sex anymore. And it shows up every now and then at the worst time, and you have to tell new girls you have it, and everyone knows what it is man- cold sore my ***. DON'T do it!
BLACKICE IS WRONG! YOU CAN GET HERPES WHEN THERE ARE NO SYMPTOMS- IT'S CALLED ASYMPTOMATIC SHEDDING! wHY DO YOU THINK SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE IT? People don't just see sores and go "oh well who cares". They get it when they can't see it!

get yourself some saran wrap! no matter how safe she is or if she doesn't have an apparent outbreak right now doesn't mean it isn't there. you have to be as safe as possible or will get this as well if you haven't already. if you aren't comfortable with the risk of herpes in your mouth too, she should understand. it is asking alot of you to put your pepe at risk too. she shouldn't push anything sexual with you if you ask me. did you know it can take up to 2 years to get your first outbreak from herpes, and it can go undetected till then? i think your awful brave and unless you think your going to marry her i'd leave while you may possibly still be clean.

I've heard there are things you can use, I think they're called dental dams or something that can protect you from direct contact. Also, you might want to look it up, it might be possible to do it when she's not having an outbreak but she might still be able to give it to you.

If she takes medication to control it the risk is not great unless she is having a out break. If you like this girl and want to continue seeing her use seran plastic wrap as a barrier. just like condoms if no holes of coarse. just place it on her area and there you go. It still feels just as good and probrobly will help you feel safer also.
