Use only "extra virgin" olive oil. All other olive oil is partially or fully extracted from olives by chemical means, and is not as good for you.
It is very low in saturated fat and trans fats, so it can help lower your LDL (bad) cholesterol level.
It contains some antioxidants.
And it tastes great!

People who live in places where they use olive oil as a matter of course have low rates of heart disease. Proving that olive oil causes that is a problem. It could be olive oil and/or one or more other things. If you start reading up on diet and health, you will find almost no consistency. Everybody thinks spinach is better for you than Coke and potato chips in front of the TV, but that's about as far as it goes. One expert will tell you to eat bananas and another one will tell you to make peace with God first.
