There's nothing wrong with that at all.

Although, I've been to Sacramento... and, really, there's not a lot going on there.

But there's nothing wrong with wanting to experience new things - I think there's something wrong with the people who refuse to do that.

Nothing wrong with Sacramento, but it is a curious choice. Most folks moving to California end up in San Francisco or Los Angeles.

Besides the heat (daytime temperatures can top 100 degrees for much of the summer), you might find Sacramento surprisingly similar to the Midwest.

While it is no longer fair to call Sacramento "cow town" since the metropolitan area is now 2 million strong, it is still rural at heart. The farms still form a ring around the city...you'll certainly see them driving in on I-80 or I-5.

You'll find the place down-to-earth in attitude. Sacramento never developed San Francisco's mighty skyscrapers or L.A.'s glitzy shopping meccas. It is a very low-key city in terms of nightlife and culture (the best of which is located in the nearby university town of Davis and the Midtown area). Still, many Californians find Sacramento too conservative for their taste.

Though on the plus side, it is more laid back and less materialistic. It's country blue-collar instead of the yuppie, self-absorbed Californian stereotype. And if you don't plan on becoming a movie star or the CEO of a high-tech corporation, it's quite nice. Housing is still affordable. You can still eat huge portions of meat without the other diners staring.

Why just Sacramento? Why not all of California?
Seeing and experiencing new things is always a good thing... but keep in mind that you either may never want to go back to Minnesota, or may want to go back the week after you got to Sacramento

Depends, are you running away from something here in Minnesota, or are you just wanting to broaden your horizons? I the latter is the case then have a great time in Sacramento!

I lived in Davis near Sacramento for 4 yrs.
My impression of Sacramento and its suburbs:
VERY HOT IN THE SUMMER
The old parts of Sacramento from downtown east thru midtown to about Sac State Univ. are nice, but east and NE of there it is vast, ugly suburban sprawl.

That is right.

Sacramento is superior to Minnesota, IMO. Been to Minny, been to Sac.

I'll take Sac any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Nothing wrong with it except the city you chose. I highly advise you pick another one.
