I havent heard the JL W7's yet, but if heard the Kicker L7's and oh-my-god...they are loud as hell. Put it this way, we were doing work on my roomates car afterhours at my boys shop and my roommate turned his 2 Fosgate 12" P3 it think, which ever is the loudest ones with a 1600watt PPI amp on em and got drowned out by my boys Scion Xb with a 10" L7 with about 800watts on it....it was crazy....

As with some others, I have yet to hear, in person, the JL W7 series woofers. If you want to be safe, go with the L7. However, if you're feeling a bit riskier, take the W7. The JL speaker is larger than the L7 (13.5" vs 12"), and can handle more power, although the sensitivity is slightly less. Honestly speaking, I think you can make the JL W7 hit much harder, given the right amplifier. But it is also a bit pricier. So, if you have extra money and are willing, I'd say take the W7 and see what you can pump out. Or, you can go with the L7, Kicker is a highly respected company, and the L7 is also a beast. (I think the W7 is beastier, is that a word?)

If you're stuck on getting one of these subs, I'd recommend the W7. I've heard both the W7 and the L7 and I agree with what many people have said. The W7 has very good sound quality and still is able to get insanely loud with enough power. (There are better sound quality-only subs, but that's another story). The L7 plays loud but is a little sloppier as far as SQ goes. It was designed more for SPL (volume).
Just make sure you put a lot of power to the W7 to reach it's full potential.

I've experienced both, in addition to 20 years car audio enthusiast. The L7's may get louder (in some installations) but you hear a LOT of turbulence, noise, what-have-you. I am absolutely NOT a fan of Kicker square subs. Loud but noisy. Pure poop for sound quality "IMO". The W7, on the other hand is a mature sound quality subwoofer. Yes, it's capable of getting loud too, but it's response is more accurate, less noisy, and purer.
Opinion on just those 2. There are far more woofs out there to consider, with all aspects being important.

They are both Great Speakers......it depends on what you want....the w7 will give you a deeper sound....the l7 are the speakers you want people to notice you....they are very loud.....and if you are all about quality over quantity....you should check out Image Dynamics.....they are by far the best woofers i have seen....the bass is deep and very nice sound to it....they are not as loud as the W7 or L7.....but the Quality of the bass is incredible.....

the W7 will give you a tighter more accurate bass but the L7 will give you more boom due to the square shape. The kicker square design tends to be a bit sloppier but the increased surface area can move more air. It is just preference to what you want and what kind of audiophile you are.

man i stomp l7s all day with my audiobahn aw1206's which cost half the price, i dunno if its just a poor install but it seems odd that every kicker system ive went up against would have a poor install. As far as the w7s i dunno cause i have never heard them in person but from what i hear they kick kickers as* and just about everything else that is mainstream too
