A ventilator/respirator, they are the same thing, is a device that requires an endotracheal tube to provide regular ventilations to a patient unable to maintain adequate ventilations on their own. A CPAP or continuous positive airway pressure uses a mask to encourage breathing and is sometimes used with sleep apnea.

It's called a CPAP (continuous positive air pressure) machine. Used for people with sleep apnea. Also used in the hospitals for patients with acute symptoms of COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease -- such as asthma / emphysema) when they are not able to blow off carbon dioxide effectively during expiration/ exhalation.

Are you talking about a ventilator? Or a Sleep apnea machine, I forgot the name of it. They can wear that at night to maintain the airway.
