Innova, Nature's Variety,Merrick, Felidae, Solid Gold cat food, Serengeti, Eagle-pack, and other high protien foods. All of these brands carry dry as well as wet food. These brands also carry food for all life stages, so you don't have to switch to adult food and risk a upset stomach. Stay away from Iams, uakanuba, and science diet. It is high in grains and a total rip off. wet food should be fed at least 2-3 times a week. Cats fed an only dry diet will have digestive and can die from kidney failure. Cats were originally desert animals, so they have a weak thirst. They will only drink water if already dehydrated. Naturally, cats want to get moisture from the food that they eat, not water as much.

Clmcanine has the right answers for you. If you read the labels on the other foods mentioned you will find that there are 2/3, not an appropriate food for a cat.
These brands have wet and dry foods. If you have a male the additonal moisture in the canned food is best for him. Male cats are prone to urinary blockages or infections caused by dehydration. I always use a teaspoon of filtered water mixed in with every serving of wet food.

must be a good brand of KITTEN CHOW because they need all these vitamins while they are growing. switch them over GRADUALLY after a year old. there are many good brands . make sure they dont have a lot of fillers and dyes in them that causes allergies. I feed my 4 cats wet food am and dry at nite. your decision. cats need lots of protein so read the bag and look at the first ingredients find out how far down on the list the protein is. the farther down the less protien what ever is first is what it has the most of and on down the line. ask your vet or pet store recommendation..

brand depends on what country you live in..
in Canada - NUTRAM or ACANA
in USA - INNOVA, WELLNESS, CHICKEN SOUP FOR CAT LOVERS, FELIDAE
they should have access to DRY food all the time
feeding a SMALL amount of wet food is good too - but only chicken or turkey and rice - mush not chunks.. with water added
each canned feeding should be 1 teaspoon canned plus 2 teaspoons water making a soup - there fore increasing the cats water intake and helping its kidneys and urinary tract
under 3 months - 3 canned feedings a day.... 3-6 months 6 canned feedings a day...
over 6 months 1 canned feeding a day..

the only type of food i will feed my cats is Nutro Natural Choice Complete Care. It's a little more pricey but it's way worth it. Or if you are not going to feed this brand choose a brand that is healthy for them such as brands without by-products. by-products are not good for your animals or other animals. think sensibly and do research on the healthiest food you can afford for your pet.

I've researched cat foods a lot recently since I got a new kitten. I am now feeding my cat Innova Evo, which is for cats & kittens. It is a high protein food that contains no grains.

As a veterinary technician, I would recommend either Iams (kitten), or science diet (kitten). Foods such as friskies, etc. are basically just junk food for your pets. It is also recommended to feed kitten food until they are approx 1 year old.

No, NOT dry!!!!
Here, check this out and you'll know more about feline nutrition than most vets. (That's because they don't teach much about nutrition, and even less about the unique aspects of feline nutrition, in vet schools. The vet who created this site had to learn this stuff by studying up on her own in the scientific literature.) And you'll never consider feeding kitty dry food!

Edit: the three answers ahead of mine were excellent. Read the website I gave you and you'll see why.
