His bladder probably hasn't developed as much as it should have. Just take him to a doctor to get him checked out.

A few questions,

Does he still wear a diaper/Pull-Ups?
And does he show dissatisfaction when he wets himself (mainly in the form of crying)?

If you can add some details, that would be great.

But for a quick answer, if you answered no to both questions then his bladder hasn't matured as much as the rest of his body.

If you answered yes to either question or both questions, then maybe your grandson is just refusing to give up that small part of him that wants to be a toddler still.

My daughter wet herself until she was 8 years old. It might be a chemical missing in his system. That's what the problem was with my daughter.. My pediatrician prescribed a nasal spray. She was on it the first month and I think wet the bed once. She put her on it for one more month and never wet again.. She's 21 now. As for during the day, it's probably just laziness.. My daugher would do the same..wait until the last minute because she didn't want to go to the bathroom and miss playing whatever at the moment, so would wind up wetting her pants. Good luck!

Have you gone to a doctor??? Maybe he has a bladder problem. But dont worry he is still young and as he matures he will stop haveing his "accidents". But until then I would just wait. Does he still wear a dippar? But maybe thats not the problem, does he drink to much? But I think one possiblity might be that he wasn't potty trained the right way. But before anything I would go visit a doctor for this just in case there is a problem with his bladder. I am no professionl when it comes to peeing ones self but I would also ask a doctor some possiblities for ways to help a 5 year old boy to stop having these frequent "accdents".

I hope everything works out okay.

My sister wet her bed until she was 9. You may want to take your son to see the doctor just to make sure it isn't a kidney infection. That is what was wrong with my sister.

I know someone else who would play so hard during the day that he would even sleep walk and go and pee in the tub besides wet the bed. I would encourage no drinking after a certain hour before bedtime.

My two sons wet the bed, one of them just stopped by himself, the other continued till he was 13, I brought him to his doctor, who in turn sent me to my health clinic, the nurse there was very understanding and gave me a belt with an alarm, my son wore it going to bed every night an as soon as he wet the alarm went off, waking him up straight away, it was hard at first but it worked thank god, took about 6months for him to stop, he had a few set backs but is dry now all the time. The only thing I will say is never scold him for it, as it makes them worse. You could try a star-chart for every dry night he gets a star, and a reward for 3 or more dry nights. good luck.

He may have underdeveloped pelvic/bladder muscels. He may have emotional issues. Has a new sibling been added to the family? Stress between you and your husband?

Have him checked out by his doctor.

AND IN NO CASE should you punish him! Never, never, chide, tease, punish him for his problem. Humiliation only hurts the child. If his bedwetting is due to emotional issues, you don't want to make them worse. PUNISHMENT ONLY MAKES THE PROBLEM WORSE!

My husband had every indignation perpertrated on him as a child who wet his bed until he was about ten.

Okay, DO NOT PUNISH. DO NOT HUMILIATE. DO NOT TEASE. Any of that is only child abuse!

Looks like the asker already has a PUNITIVE attitude towards the child's problem. GET OVER THE PUNITIVE ATTITUDE, and you will be one small positive step toward helping him solve his problem. You don't know if the problem is physical or emotional, but either way he is NOT BEING LAZY! That is punitive and not helpful one bit!

You can take him to the doctor and get him checked for any medical problems that may cause it. Also, most cases, children can't help it and don't out grow wetting themselves until after age 8yrs old. Another theory may be regression. Has there been a new baby introduced to his immediate family? Sometimes when children see the adults paying attention to a younger (possibly still in diapers) child, they want that attention, so they wet themselves to get the attention.

Does he forget? Did you take him to the doctor. My son had a friend who was still wetting himself at 7. I found this out, as he sat in my new car and all of a sudden, I noticed this odor, and we were on our way to a restaurant.

Take the child to a doctor. It sounds like he needs a check up.

It could be alot of things. It could be a medical condition, or nerves. Stress on a child can do this. That was the case with my stepson (now 22) the stress of going between two different homes was getting to him. We had to sit down and work things out so that it was much more the same at both houses for him and find ways to help him de-stress. It could go on for a while, but let him know that it's ok and you will gladly help him and listen to him if he wants to talk. Good Luck.

One of my relatives used to wet himself for a while. He was about 7 or 8. He was a heavy sleeper & didn't know when to wake up to go to the restroom. You should not let him have any liquids a couple of hours before he goes to bed and makes sure he uses the restroom before going to bed as well.
If worse, go see a doctor.
:)
