Position myself about an arms length from the wall. Kneel and clear my mind and relax my body. Focus on a point that is about mouth level and bring all of my consciousness into the moment while keeping my mind empty.
30 minutes an evening, WAY before I go to bed or whenever I am tired or feeling out of sorts. Minimum once a day usually 2-4 times a day, not counting deep contemplation or prayer, is my usual frequency.
There is really no wrong way to meditate as long as you relax your mind and body. You can do a search on chants if you need a focus for your mind. My favorite was:

Before I was able to clear my mind on my own I used this chant. Be sure to read the story of the pronunciation of it.

Sit down, relax.
Close your eyes, or at least just let them relax.
Slowly take note of the things you hear and feel around you.
I used to think that meditation was about blocking out the world, but I've found that doing the exact opposite works much better. (Get a feel for your surroundings at a relaxing pace. If anything trys to shove its way into your mind, let it, but do it calmly.)

Meditation is focusing the mind on something and allowing it to rest there for a while. The details of how and when vary for me because my schedule changes so much, but I prefer to meditate on something that will inspire or challenge me spiritually.

The best technique is to go to a trained instructor who can address your nature and questions rather than trying to learn from the internet or books.

1) Fold hands (or not, as you prefer).
2) Talk. You'll be heard.

you must find your spiritual center, relax, imagine something I usually use space, let that picture fade away and let go your control of your thoughts.
