Prevention Mag. had an article on this about 20 yrs ago. I had carpal tunnel so bad the docs want to operate on me right away.

I had heard about how to maintain good health with CT before I read the article...Here is what you do:

Take 1 - B vitamin complex such as B-100 then starting with at least 5 - B6 (100mg) take it everyday.

The results are not rapid it takes about 4 to 6 months. After your hands and wrists feel better you can reduce back to 1 - B100 and 2 or 3 B6 but you have to take them almost every day. If you start feeling pain again increase the B6 for a few days.

Does this work for everyone? No, but the failure rate for the surgery is over 80% and must be repeated...I tried it and it has been working for me since 1986 and I have never had the surgery.

You can try voice recognition software but it isn't that good yet. But if you have a really clear voice it might work for you.

Try switching to a better mouse in case the mouse is the problem. Look for one where the button goes down easier. When I was developing carpal tunnel, I switched mice and the problem went away. Don't just assume it is the keyboard.

there are special ergonomic keyboards designed to relieve carpal tunnel, but I have not tried them.

Acupuncture!!! Try it !
I didn't have carpal tunnel, but I had a recurring problem that 15 Dr visits could not fix. I went to an acupuncturist as my last hope and I can't praise it enough! Some insurances do cover it.
Give it a shot, I think you might be surprised.

Aside from the wrist brace, which I would use, I would also try some Tylenol to ease the pain. I would also try to limit the amount of typing you do (if possible). I would also make an appointment to see the doctor to see what other advice he/she has to give. Sometimes a simple medication for the pain and swelling will be what would be prescribed.

This runs in my family, n apparently, is quite common ......... the orthopedist finally had to do a minor operation which runs vertically from the lower part of the palm to the wrist. CT is usually due to repetitive movement/use of the hand.

There is the surgery. See a specialist. This is a HUGE problem and it is only getting worse. Try an ergonomic keyboard - see the dr. Hopefully you can heal yourself, but you never know.

depending on how severe it is, YOGA will do wonders for you. my friend has carpal tunnel and YOGA solved it all for her. no more pain, plus she feels so much stronger from it. try it, you have nothing to lose other than unnecessary surgery.
