He took 4 yrs of building and trades at his high school. They build 1 house every year and he liked it. I guess I am concerned about his ability to make a living at this. He thinks he knows it all now, but I am sure has a lot to learn. His high school building and trades instructor wanted him to do this too. He is very hard headed and I want him to be successful. Should I keep paying tuition for this and encourage it? He was terrible at books and didnt like sitting in a class room. Hopefully we will get thru this. I am a single mom and not really sure what to say to him. His dad is out of the picture since he was 3 yo.

He says he can re plumb my entire house and not to worry about hiring an electrician to re do the wiring because he already knows how and he lives at home.

There will always be a need for Civil Engineers and Technicians, because people like changes. As far as money well...I know many construction workers who are millionaires. Many people I know have their own businesses, they take off when they feel like it travel around the country and are wealthy. Its hard work though, but if you enjoy it you will excel.

You can hope that even with the economy slowing down that there will always be construction. But, there is not going to be the level of housing construction that there has been in the past. Not for a long time I'm afraid.
Still, if you live in an area that hasn't had a lot of robust construction that will now count as "overbuilding" maybe there will be a constant demand for his skill when he gets out.
Your question really seems to be whether this is an appropriate job. To that I'll say if he loves it then that's more than half the battle right there. I just hope there will be enough work when he is depending on this for his income. But keep in mind there are lots of construction type of jobs that he can do. I knew one married couple that parlayed their Idaho dock building skills for resort homeowners into a very profitable Hawaiia home building enterprise. (It seems that people that build like to think big...)
I vote for helping him out. Based on my experience, people who like what they do usually excel far beyond those who struggle with a job they don't like.
Good luck!

I even have limited information on the small print of the decrease yet from the actual point it rather is thrilling why this occurred. i don't see why training should not be a federal situation. It does not make experience to me to have it left as much as the States the place you're transforming into diverse ranges and high quality of training. A citizen from a poorly knowledgeable state could theoretically be at a shrink back if s/he moved to a extra suited knowledgeable state interior of our own u . s . a .. seems marvelous. training (intelligence), in my opinion, is the main serious factor in human life, and each thing else is an prompt result from that. instruct our destiny, it fairly is not finding so great precise now. rather some human beings, extraordinarily Repubs, have matters with the tag "Socialism". Socialism isn't undesirable as many make it out to be, and in reality, we live in a Socialist/Capitalist society already. training, Police, hearth Dept, 911 are all socialized yet i don't hear too a lot of human beings complaining approximately that. in my opinion, our Gov't might desire to be to blame for well being, training, and safety--everybody starts off off on the comparable foot. After that, it fairly is the guy to create their own direction

Yes, the construction industry is a good field to expand in as the previous answerer's have mentioned. As he is taking building and cons tech, he can narrow his scope later to civil engineering, quantity surveying, mechanical and electrical engineering. Later on after he is working he could take project/construction management as a part time course. I'm taking quantity surveying, the feeling that you get when your at site working and seeing a project complete and knowing your a part of it is just.... incredible. I have classmates which are not so good theory wise but they made it through due to their understanding of the construction process. In the industry, theory is not that crucial.
By all means, encourage your son!

I majored in electronics engineering and work at a well known communications company. I make about $90k and I'm not happy at my present job. I'm looking to move on. If your son feels that he'll be happy in construction you should support him. There is and always will be good opportunity in the construction industry he may move all they way up to engineer, architech, or have his own construction co. someday. As long as he is happy that's all that matters. He may develope other interests later.
