birds sing to locate a mate, yes, but they also sing to tell others of its flock where it is, that it is okay, and everything is fine (or not fine, depending on the song being sung). a bird also sings to locate others of its flock - this is called contact calls.

some birds do sing just because they are happy and contented.

birds in the wild sing to locate their mate. they mostly sing in the morning and evening. they sing in the evening for the above purpose and the morning to make the sun go up!

They sing to mark their territory. They sing to find mates.
When I try to sing, people ask me to shut up or go away.
But I am happy anyhow.
