Dogs are pregnant from 57 - 67 days with the average being 63. A vet can check your dog and tell you if she is pregnant. If she is she will need to be fed a good quality puppy food throughout her pregnancy and nursing. She will need exercise but nothing that involves a lot of jumping or exertion.

Depending on how far along she is, the vet may be able to feel the puppies +/- movement. You can do an ultrasound, and you can x-ray to check the number of puppies. You may want to know this because if she is having a natural birth (instead of a c-section), you will have a better idea when she will be done labor and not retaining any puppies. If you have a dog that is a brachycephalic breed (ex: bulldog, boxer, boston terrier), then you definitely want a c-section. These dogs already have trouble breathing normally, and the process of labor can hinder their breathin further. Dogs generally follow 63 days for gestation, give or take a couple days. You want to increase her caloric intake, so the puppies can grow. There are a number of flea/tick, heartworm, other medications, and vaccines that can't be given when they are pregnant.
