There is the Greek (real) Macedonia and there is a Slavic/Albanian state called “Former Yugoslav republic of Macedonia” (FYROM) or Slavic –Macedonia.
Greek (real) Macedonia or Macedon as we all know is a Greek region (in proper Greek “Μακεδονία”) it is actually one of the biggest regions of Greece and it has played a most significant part in Greek history!
The real Macedonia in Greece was the birth place of Alexander the Great!
Alexander created a gigantic Greek empire and he is responsible for the spreading of Greek culture and language around the world!
A lot of people confuse Greek (real) Macedonia with the state of Slavic-Macedonia but they are not related at all.
Slavic-Macedonia or FYROM is a small state with a population of Slav-Macedonians, Albanian-Macedonians, Turks, Rumanians, and even Greeks.
It is situated above Greece and between Albania, and Bulgaria.
It is a very recent state and it emerged after the breaking of Yugoslavia.

Macedonia is a country in South-Eastern Europe, on the Balkans peninsula. It is located south of Serbia, north of Greece, west of Bulgaria and east of Albania. The capital city is called Skopje, and the river that flows through Skopje is called Vardar :-)) It is in Central European Time Zone. The official language is Macedonian. It's a small country, with a population of about 2 048 000 people. Macedonia declared its independence from former Yugoslavia in 1991, and recently has applied for membership in the European Union.
Judging from your nickname, I am surprised that you didn't know all this already :-))
