the higher the count, the finest quality, also the type of cloth of course, cotton, linen, etc, thread count has something to do with how may threads per square inch, the higher, in other words the more thread per square inch, is better, stronger and costlier to make, next time you go shopping compare low thread and high thread count, the higher is softer , its also stronger, low thread wears quickly after several washes and feels rough on you skin. i have some fine high thread sheet set that belonged to my grandmother, about 30 years old and still look and feel great

anything over 250. The lower the count the worse they wear. The 400 count last forever and feel like silk to your skin."The 180" is 180 thread per inch. At 250 or more is well worth the money!

The higher the better. You can buy 180 & 250 @ Walmart and its no good. It will ball up overtime. The higher the better. Plus you can find them on sale at great prices. I got mind 75% off @ Elderbeerman. I don't know if you have one nearby, but they had all there household stuff on clearance.

I am in agreement with the higher, the better. It will feel like cool silk on your skin. I will never buy cheap sheets again. I actually bought mine brand new off of ebay for a fraction of the retail price. You should check there...
