My 1 yr. old Yorkie is shivering and panting at the same time with his tongue hanging out of his mouth. His heart is also beating really fast. It's not hot or cold in here - its 76 degrees. Should I be concerned? He still seems alert.

Yorikies need to be fed and watered regularly or there blood sugar will mess up. So try to get him to eat and drink and call your vet. Check your dogs stomach regularly and make sure it is kinda poofed out because if it isnt it needs to eat.

I have to agree with the rest of the respondents, get to the emergency vet immediately. Do not rely on the nose test to determine the well being of your dog. Rectal temperature is the way to tell if the temperature of your pet is above or below the normal. It would be wise to call the clinic and speak to a veterinary technician and let them know you are on your way. Be prepared with the following information: How long have you noticed the behavior? Have you noticed any vomiting or diarrhea? Is the dog eating and drinking normally? Have you noticed any lethargy or behavior change in the past 24 hours? Even if you are reluctant to take the dog in (I know money is a huge issue for most people) at least call and speak to a vet tech.

in case you will come across a so-referred to as Teacup length yorkie it in all probability cost approximately $one thousand or greater. There in all probability are some, yet they are in all probability to have extreme wellbeing themes. somebody else retains insisting that they arrive in one length purely. enable me perfect that concept. we've had 2 that have been 6 lbs each and every and that they the two have been very healthful different than one (our first had a undertaking with considered one of his knees popping out of joint. fortuitously, my husband became consistently in a position to manage it decrease back in place,) the two a sort of yorkies lived to the age of 14. Our contemporary yorkie weighs 12 lbs. So there are massive yorkies and there are tiny yorkies. i do no longer think of any below 5 lbs could be a good suggestion. the single 6 lb yorkie cost us $350, yet that became over 2 an prolonged time in the past. the different 6 pounder became a freebie because of the fact he became a stray that no person appeared for. Our contemporary 12 lb yorkie cost us $3 hundred from a rescue abode and he became some million twelve months previous as quickly as we accompanied him.

I'd take him to the vet - it might be nothing, but if he really has rapid heart beat, shivering and panting, it sounds like something that should be checked out. If this is your first dog, it takes time to develop a sense for what's normal - and even if it's not, it takes time to figure out what's normal for this dog. If he doesn't seem normal for him, and you're anxious, it's better to hear the vet say "no, it's nothing," than to be awake, wondering! God luck!

He could be suffering from some sort of poisoning. Do you have any house hold plants he could have ingested? This is a typical reaction to a toy sized dog getting into chocolate as well. Any chance he chewed up some house hold cleaners?

Get him to a vet ASAP! If he is in shock, the sooner he recieves treatment, the better he will be.

Good luck to you & your yorkie!

It sounds like your dog maybe having a panic attack. I would call the vet and describe his condition. It maybe nothing, but I go by the same rule of thumb with dogs that I do with babies. If it looks bad then call a doctor.
Good luck!

It could be a dozen different things. Instead of asking yahoo, you should be calling your vet. It could be a seizure, heart attack, stroke, anything. Call your vet. I'm not trying to be cruel, I just want to see you do the right thing. Good luck
