torbay already answered about the dogs, so I'll address the infestation. You need to wash everything sheets, comforters, dog bed covers, and use a carpet cleaner on the carpet, couches, and chairs. If the problem persists, call a professional, dursban is NOT safe for your dogs. Many companies will do a one time treatment that will help you get control of the problem. Treat outside with a quality ant killer, preferably a liquid, ants, fleas, and termites are susceptible to the same pesticides.

There is a wonderful little pill called Capstar that you can get at your vet for about $6. It is the only immediate kill flea product on the market. If you are willing to spend a little money to get rid of the problem here is my suggestion.
Take your pets to the vet and have them treated with Capstar and arrange for the to be boarded for a couple of days. Put a fresh vacuum bag in your vacuum cleaner and vacuum all of the house. Throw the bag out immediately. Wash all bedding in hot water. Purchase Mycodex environment spray from your vet and treat your home. Once you have treated your home, pick up your flea-free pets and apply a frontline, advantix or revolution dose and hopefully that will take care of the problem.
At the very least, get a Capstar. You will be amazed. If you would like more info about the pill it should be available at www.novartis.com in the animal health section.

Don't use OTC flea medications or bombs. They are worthless and can cause serious illness or death to your pets. get a good flea control like Advantage or Frontline from your vet.Vets also have household sprays such as Knockoput which are effective and safe for use around your pets & family. You are using way too many chemicals on your pets thus endangering their health & life. Vacumn daily making sure to concentrate on all cracks & crevices, baseboards, under furniture, couch and chair cushions, mattresses, boxsprings, etc. After vacumning throw away the bag in an outside trash container. Wash bedding, clothes and dog beds in as hot a water as the fabric will allow. Any that can be dried in the clothes dryer do that too. Vacumn your car as well. Treat the yard around your house. You can get a safe flea yard treatment at a farm supply or hardware store. Once you get a severe flea infestation in your house it can take 3-4 months at least to get it under control.

I can sympathize with that. I had fleas in my bedroom carpet that just kept coming back after powders and sprays. I was afraid to even sit on my own bedroom floor. Finally, I did 2 things; bought frontline plus for cats to treat ours (great deals on ebay from a trusted austrailian dealer), and for the carpet I bought a $3 box of 20 mule team borax, mixed it with salt (80% borax to 20% salt for however amount you mix), sprinkle the mixture on the carpet, then use a hard bristled broom to pound down the mix deep into the carpet. Vaccuum after 2 days, throw out the bag, then sprinkle the mix again, this time leaving it on for a week. Vaccuum one more time(deep cleaing vaccuum recommended to get all the borax out). This works because the flea larvae eats up the mix, dries out, and the flea cycle has been cut. This worked wonders for me and hopefully for you too. Those things are such a nuisance. Best of luck.

Unfortunately, you need to call your Veterinarian who will flea dip and shampoo your dogs and an exterminator for your house (one who will not only "bomb" the house (be prepared for an incredible mess) but will also soak the carpets and floors with appropriate and safe chemicals). The non-professional products sold to us as consumers are nowhere near strong enough to adequately do the job. I speak from experience - living on the North Shore of Long Island and having cats (who did not even go out). Once fleas are in the area they just infest everything. I wish you good luck.

I guess I have to assume you are not using Advantage or Frontline, because dipping the animal after applying a topical IS NOT a good idea!!!!!!! You can poision them!!!!!!
Get Advantage. Apply it every two weeks for a month, then monthly thereafter.
Most of the stuff you have been using, like powders, do not work and can be harmful. The good stuff costs, but it would have been cheaper than all that other junk.
And get ready to treat for tapeworms, because they will be full of those too!!

you absolutly need to use advantage on your pets every 2 weeks as suggest by the newfie breeder earlier, and then monthly. Also, calling a professional exterminator is a great idea. Sometimes, thats the only thing that does the trick. Pay out the big bucks and safe your pets and yourself alot of trouble a scratching.

to get rid of the fleas you have to totally clean house. clean like you have lice. wash everything in hot water. and then bomb the house and treat your yard or else they will just jump right back on your pup.
then get a spot on treatment, you can get the frontline and advantix but they are rather costly so a more cost effencitent product would be zodaic. its just as good as frontline but its half the price also you can get a 3 months supply of cutter for 5 bucks at petco. and it works great to.
