I play the exact same song file in both WMP and iTunes, iTunes sounds a whole lot quieter and just not as crisp. There aren't really any options in iTunes, but I have to use iTunes because I have a iPod... what can I do to make it sound better?

I tested 2 more media players, Winamp and Creative's MediaSource Player. BOTH sound the same as Windows Media Player, and twice as crisp along with being louder than iTunes! There has to be an alternative to this infernal iTunes for my iPod, I don't want to manage two separate music libraries for both iTunes and WMP!

Windows media player is probably using WOW and tru-bass to adjust the sound to make it punchier. That, and often iTunes isn't set to full volume by default! itunes has something similar (though personally I don't like to alter the intended sound past a graphic equaliser).
Go into preference, and then playback. Turn the sound enhancer on.

Maybe there's something wrong with your computer. iTunes sounds way better than Windows Media Player on both my Dell PC and my iMac G5.

iTunes and WMP. I freeking hate RealPlayer. they have been caught transmitting guidance from own desktops and had to be sued to end. and that i hate how they conceal the loose participant link away in a corner of their cyber web internet site.
