I don't mind thorough checkups but the rectal check is where I gotta draw the line. I went in there for acid reflux/ GERD and the guy thinks I might be anemic and the next thing you know he wants do do a rectal check on a dude- ME! Holy crap. I have got a prostate check before and that just isn't a Sunday walk in the park. I'll do the blood tests instead. Was this rectal stool check really necessary? Damn!

Sorry to say, but YES it was a very appropriate and important part of your examination. If you are anemic, then you need to know WHY. Bleeding from the GI tract is a very common cause of anemia. And, if you do have rectal bleeding, you might not even be aware you've got it. This is called occult rectal bleeding (meaning you can't see it). Rectal exams are a necessary part of a thorough evaluation of your GI tract. Sorry dude.

Let me tell you, it's no walk in the park for health care providers either. You think we like doing rectal exams???

Yeah, rectals are no fun, but if you want the doctor to make a complete - and correct - diagnosis, then he needs to gather all the info necessary. Ask him next time for a home stool sample collection kit. Believe me, a rectal is faster and less messy.

whilst i became right into a youthful female it became right into a breeze. Now that i'm older, my muscle mass down there seems to have fairly decreased in length and the speculum moving into and establishing hurts. besides the fact that it is going fairly rapid. It hurts besides the fact that it is not excruciating soreness. I particularly propose a female common practitioner. there is often a nurse in the room. i might rather have 5 minutes (it is not that long) of embarrassment and a few twinges than go through with maximum cancers and the treatments or have an std that i did no longer be attentive to approximately. The pap I had this twelve months became into distinctive than the previous ones and that i think of it incorporates a try for STDs, it is new--according to possibility it became into for HPV. it is significant in this present day an age.

I don't know? You have to be careful of some doctors. I have heard stories about male doctors jumping to rectal exams. Do you have black stool? I think that is a sign of blood in the stool. Did the doctor even ask if you were having black stool? Follow your instinct.

I've never heard of a doctor doing a rectal check for bloody stool, usually they make you poo in a bag and bring it in for them to test it for blood.

From the drs viewpoint yes you should of let him check you out. You may be bleeding around your intestines and this is the way they check it. Good thing you did`nt need a colonoscopy that`s when they put the whole camera into your rectum. I had one done a few years ago now I just ask them for a stool culture strips that I can do myself and send it in myself. Good Luck to you...

I would be hesitant to let a doctor stick a camera up my butthole also. It comes down to this, are you willing to trade off the bad experience for the knowledge of whats wrong, or just hope other methods may work?
