In its early days, the H. J. Heinz Company company wanted to advertise the great number of choices of canned and bottled foods it offered for sale, although the number 57 was chosen arbitrarily, as in fact by 1892 they had more than 60 products. It chosen by Henry Heinz after he saw an advertisement for "21 varieties of shoes" in an elevated train car in New York. The company now has more than 1100 products.

There were like 38 ... but 57 looked better in marketing.
