If you havent already heard my story my ex left me after 8 years only days after we moved into our new house. She left to "find herself" and says that she was starting to feel as though she hadnt lived life yet at age 26. I kinda understood despite the completely shitty timing of her decision. A month later she has a 3 month overseas holiday planned, will be moving back to the city with friends and will be doing things she spoke of a while back. I just never thought she was so serious. Whilst there is still love there, she wont committ to anything further in our relationship but also does not rule anything out once she has had time to clear her head but nothing will happen between us before her trip away. My best mate who spoke to her a couple of days ago says she made a passing comment regarding possibly working things out with me when she returns. I really dont know what to make of this. Is this kind of understandable or am i just her backup plan if nothing better comes along?

Issue her an ultimatim, if she doesn't like it then thats her problem. Tell her up front that you are not her puppy dog, you will not "sit, stay" whilst she goes and has her cake and eats it too. Tell her that if she does not want a committed relationship, thats fine by you but don't expect one when she comes back either.
