Ramen, Jim, Ramen.
The jabs about low IQs among other insults are ridiculous. We should be able to have intelligent debates without stooping to such low levels as to insult those who don't share our beliefs. It is possible to disagree and be respectful at the same time.

Did you know that our Holy Bible says that we would be persecuted? It's supposed to be considered pure joy if you are persecuted because of your faith. (Phillippians)
I seriously pity people that call me ignorant, stupid, etc. I've been where they are. (So was Paul, who wrote the Bible) I chuckle sometimes at the stupid & mean things I said. I also know that all the people I said them to, still prayed for me. They also would never hold it against me.
You know, if you became a born-again-Bible-believing Christian tomorrow.....I would take you aside and say:
"Isn't it the coolest thing ever? Don't you wish it would have happened a long time ago?"
I wish I would have been a Christian since I was 14, but I wouldn't understand God's love as much because I wouldn't have gone through all the garbage that God's forgiven. Or even help people that think they are too far from God to ever be forgiven.
The transformation in my life wouldn't be as dramatic. God knows that drama will get my attention.
What can i say?
Thanks for the kind words...

Very well put.
As a Christian I agree that we should all live in Love together. But also as a Christian I wouldn't be doing my "job" if I didn't tell you that your beliefs lead to eternal damnation.
That being out of the way, I can respect people who have made an intelligent choice based of observation and consideration. Evolution is a scientific fact, however the theory of evolution as told by Darwin does not exist in reality.
Evolution on a micro scale happens all of the time and can be tracked and predicted. Macro-evolution or the trans-species evolution has not been proved nor can it be.
I can disagree without being mean or mean spirited as I would hope that all mature adults can do.
I feel that people are mean here, mostly because they are ignorant of the facts and this is a virtually anonymous forum. I believe that my character here should be the same as my character everywhere.
I feel badly for those who will actually try to come up with a viable "reason" or "excuse" to be mean to anyone.

Western Christians who whine about being persecuted on Yahoo NEED to visit :
http://www.christianpersecution.info/
It bothers me when people disrespect God, but it's more of an anxious, worried-about-them feeling than feeling personally put down, usually. Also about the humor, sometimes I kid around with people online, and I mistakenly think they'll take it in the same lighthearted way I meant it. Conversely, when I get offended, I try to ask myself if *they* might have meant it "all in fun" or at least partly in fun, as well.
Serious discussion is good for everyone. Sometimes I *bash Bible critics upside the head*
but I try to leave them with a little something to think about, too, not just a head-whacking. And there are many atheists/agnostics who do the same for me. I just try to filter out the insults, unless there's nothing BUT an insult, in which case I give 'em the ol' thumbs-down-a-roo. That'll larn' em but good.

The problem with religion is; as long as they are an minority they play the nice under dog. The moment they are a majority the will mandate there religion on you under threat of punishment. Look at Ireland Iran and Taliban country. No respect for people that think and belief different. Religion is at its core intolerant to other beliefs, don't be fooled!

When people are raised religiously by their parents and know no other way, they have a tendency to defend their religion. They are less accepting of other religions or agnostic beliefs.
When people are raised, yet change their religion by means of their own decision, they are more accepting to the views and less critical of others. This 'mean' attitude many people adopt is human nature...Instead of fighting the negative, we may attract more positive responses by spreading ideas instead of challenging others' religious beliefs.

Yo, Jim, your name is becoming familiar to me....
I've never been "mean" to anyone - it's not my nature - but this site assures a degree of anonymity so that mean-spirited people can spew their venom with impunity. And I can understand the profound frustration we feel toward those self-righteous Christian fundamentalists who proclaim that we are all going to hell for our disbeliefs. I like to think that I am a kind, generous, charitable person who has spent a lifetime helping others, only to hear some wingnut tell me that I'm damned because I don't accept his god. Equally hard to listen to are the rants on homosexuality, Muslims, evolution, etc. etc.
Yep, I'm one of those despicable atheists. I choose not to be associated with a god who approved the Crusades, the Inquisition and the bombing of abortion clinics. Hmmm...tough call, eh?

The christian collective on here, to me, seem to ask for ridicule and it is only human that people express their dislike by being "mean." Whenever I have posed questions to the christian factor here, that I wished to be answered sensibly in order to aid my knowledge and understanding, the majority of the answers I always got from alleged 'christians' were either hateful, disrespectful, dismissive or simply rude. Lot's of times my questions weren't even answered, just assumed to be worthy of negative remarks purely for the fact I was questioning the christian beliefs(oh, how DARE I!!).
I have many friends in the real world that believe in God(s) and I show them the same respect they show me. Our beliefs are our own. But in here? No. I have virtual christian friends, yes, but for the collective christian, I cannot have ANY respect for, due to the repeated hypocrisy I witness on here on a daily basis.
Sure, we should all be happy and love each other, but sorry, if they preach to people that we should be loving of all and turn the other cheek, etc, yet fail to practice what they are preaching about, how DARE they expect humility and kindness back, from others who may not necessarily have those restrictions upon them!?
I believe, if one is to follow a book that stipulates codes of practice that if truly followed, would create real, decent role models, then those who follow that, bind themselves to the struggle to live up to those ideals in every action they do. I see none of that coming from the overall majority of the so-called 'christians' that frequent this site and rarely do I see even an attempt being made towards this goal of self betterment.
Any of my christian friends I have met on here(the number is in single figures)should know that I see them as the few that truly try to live up to what they believe as is evidenced by their actions towards others on a regular basis. For that, I have nothing but the greatest respect for them.
For all the rest who continue to spew forth blatant hypocrisy, deceit and hatred disguised as religious belief and to those who knowingly misinform youngsters, I will continue to harass to the best of my ability in the slight hope that they will one day see WHY I did this and realise their mistakes. I have no desire to change anyone, but for the betterment of themselves, as to better oneself is to better another through example-cause and effect. Their belief does not come into it in the slightest, unless that belief allows them excuse to do harm, whether that be physical, emotional or mental. Those that like to preach without fully knowing and understanding what they are talking about, I have a special calling towards. If the christians cannot sort those ones out amongst themselves, then I will willingly step in to address the wrongs.

What a nice peaceful question. Unfortunately, people ask for peace just about everyday, and those who will be mean or judgemental will not cease. So, I will continue to make jokes at their expense because, it is fun, it's easy, and you already know all about it.

Focus on the issue and not the individual. Perhaps with doing that in time people can be more tolerant in general. Well said.
