Why would ceasing to exist be fearful?

Question

Do you agree that getting killed is scary, but death itself isn't?

Of course, if you have a possitive attitude with value for life, then you would fear the fact of ceasing to exist, but when you're dead, you won't know you are.

I agree. I have no fear of death; perhaps being atheist helps? Maybe, maybe not. Even the manner in which I will die does not perturb me. Pain is but a sensory experience that can be controlled by the will. I do it all the time.

I was not afraid before I was born, why be afraid for after I die!?

Interesting take....

I do not fear dying. I used to fear "ceasing to exist"...because that would mean that I was wrong, and there is nothing "next". I choose to have faith that there is something else. That there is God. And when you live like that, then there is never a time you will "cease to exist".

The universe has the natural tendency to cease existence. The oblivion is it's most natural state. Existence is an anomaly. It is just our sheer will and fight against this norm that keeps us alive as individuals and as a species.
