Chemicals and biohazzards are burned in a fire that's hotter than out sun. It's so hot that even the smoke is burned. Nuclear weapons are dismantled and the plutonium might be used as reactor fuel.

I usually just bash 'em flat with a hammer and then pour salt water over them and leave them in the sun to rust for a couple weeks. If they're full of nerve gas, vent it VERY carefully into party balloons and release them, before you bash the containers. Away they'll go, and you'll never have to worry about them again.

My understanding....WMD are chemical or bio....both of these can be destroyed by burning.
