One of my cats is very "cat like", and I think he'll manage just fine, but my other cat is a total wimp and jumps out of her skin if you sneeze too loud, I'm worried about her adjustment.

Just keep a close eye on the puppy. I would make sure your cats have a room (maybe a study or bedroom) that they can retreat to where puppy is not allowed. I have 4 dogs and 2 cats, and they all get along just fine, but the cats rule the bedrooms, and the dogs have the rest of the house.

One of the best pieces of advice I ever got (4 cats, 1 dog) is to put the cats in a bedroom or something where you can close the door, but the door has room at the bottom, then put one of the animals inside, and let them sniff at each other under the door for a while.

You might also put the puppy in the kitchen then after this, with something like a baby fence across the door so the puppy can't come out and trounce all over the cats, and let them meet each other that way.

I think the biggest trick is to get them "used to" each other without FORCING them on each other. Be sure you never hold the cat out to the puppy (they view it as you giving them a toy) nor throw them into a situation where they are forced to confront each other. Put the cat up in a cat tree or something so it can watch the new puppy without feeling threatened.

A good way would be to put the cats in a room with the door closed so that they can smell the dog underneath the door. Or even if you have a glass door would help. I introduced a dog into my house when my cat was already in there, and that's exactly what i did. They got to smell eachother before actually interacting and it work pretty well. That's one tip.

we've merely talken on a rescue domestic dog and have already got an 11yo cat. For the previous 5 weeks, the dogs has consistently chased the cat around the abode for the period of the day and the two considered one of them have rested contained in the sitting room at evening - extraordinarily lots ignoring one yet another. Our coverage is go away them to it, even with the actuality that do no longer enable the cat recover from under pressure if the dogs is merely too hyper. We also have a daughter and a stair gate. protecting it closed in any respect cases ability that the cat has a 'haven' to circulate to if the domestic dog gets too lots for her. The cat is commencing off to declare her 'authority' and the domestic dog isn't incredibly so prepared to torment her anymore - even with the undeniable fact that vigilance is significant! attempt to enable them to paintings it out themselves as much as attainable, yet be vigilant, and ensure the cat has someplace quiet to circulate if all of it gets too lots.

well, it's a mith that cats and dogs hate each other. I have 5 dogs and a cat. Since yours is a puppy the cats won't care but beware since cats are really dominant. Always keep them happy and if they fight with your puppy always shout at your dog, it'll listen whereas cats would look for revenge.

Animals are awesome and adjust to their environment very well. Some animals take longer than others. I wouldn't worry about her, just let her be and in time she will deal with the new puppy on her own. You can never force this situation. Just let nature take it's course. Good luck!

My dad's answer was always, "put them all in a room together, they will sort it out".

That doesn't mean you don't keep an eye on them. Make sure you spend time with each of them and give them all a safe place.

just bring the puppy home and turn it loose, they will make peace in their own way at their own pace, do not try to help them or force them, they will work it out themselves
