It's an accepted protocol on the internet to use either proper punctuation or all lower case. All upper case is when you're yelling or emphasing one word.

It's a matter of intent versus impact. You may not think you're yelling, but if everyone who reads you message thinks you are, then you are.

Then why is shouting bad etiquette ? Perhaps because most of the time it is unnecessary and makes people uncomfortable. So with writing in capital letters.

In electronic media, typing in all caps in considered shouting. It's also very hard on the eyes, not to mention a total breakdown of grammar.

On the internet, typing in caps is taken to mean you are shouting. However, I do an occasional word in caps just for emphasis.

Who says it is rude?
maybe your cap key is stuck on?
caps are usually used for emphasis, as if one was shouting, so may be that's why someone has told u it was rude.

It actually hurts my eyes a bit to read in all caps.

I don't think it is rude as much as it makes you look stupid.
