Swaddle them and they'll calm down and go to sleep.

I sympathize.
What the people answering earlier don't understand is that pacifier dependant children need the nutzing action to soothe them.
When I lost the sacred pacifier, I used a baby bottle filled with juice or formula (whichever is appropriate), and gave her small amounts until she finally fell asleep.

Children will cry for many reasons. They could be over tired. They could be hot, have gas or colic - in some cases, even though you have fed them, they could still be hungry - but you don't want to over feed them. Check to see if they have a fever, maybe something is pinching them. You didn't mention the age. If it is a small child and you have checked everything, you may need to tell your pediatrician. You don't want to have a baby so spoiled that it wants to be held all the time. If nothing works, then call your pediatrician, something else could be wrong.

Depends on the age of the child and what's wrong. Sometimes a baby has gas and burping him/her might help. Sometimes gently massaging their tummy while they lie on their backs helps or gently raising their legs up and down sometimes forces the gas out.
Sometimes they're teething and you can get something at the drugstore that's safe to rub on their gums that numbs the pain. You should also make sure you check to see if they have a fever because maybe they have some kind of infection - possibly an ear infection that is causing them pain.

try giving the baby a nice soothing bath. That what my husband did when I was a new mom and didn't know what to do, also try taking the baby outside weather permitting that use to settle my daughter down, even threw getting her ears pierced. Lot of Luck

You let them cry a little. sometimes they need to learn to comfort themselves. you can also sing a lullaby in their ear, or rock them. i sometimes let my son cry because I know he is sleepy and just fighting it. You learn to know the difference between pain cry and sleepy cry.
