Do you mean is it occultic?
I would say yes. It's founder L. Ron Hubbard was a disciple of Aleister Crowley. Hubbard claimed he wrote Dianetics by automatic handwriting. During lectures, Hubbard would sometimes mention Crowley's writings. The cross of Scientology bears some resemplance to the cross of the Golden Dawn, an occult order Crowley once belonged to. According to one of Hubbard's sons, Hubbard practiced black magic up until at least the 1960's. Many critics of Scientology charge it is little more than Crowley's occult teachings science fictionalized (Is science fictionalized a word? It is now!)

Do you mean: Is scientology a cult?
Occult means something that cannot possibly be a noun referred to as "an occult". Cult and Occult have truly different meanings and conotations. Occult is a NOUN for religions that refer to witches, spells, waking of the dead, the stars moving at juxtapositions, or anything other than Christianity, etc.
Cult refers to a religious (spiritual or political) group that requires its members to sacrifice, sacrifice, sacrifice - even giving up their true selves and all they own and espousing their beliefs in public to try and sway others their way-and especially to give up lucrative pre-existing contracts with previous acquaintances in order to further strengthen the cult's (religious group's) ties in the business of this earth.
As if hypnotized, the cult's member will go on public TV and ruin his stellar, money-making career, at a moment's notice. The member will never understand the forces of humanity that rejected his cult crap until he will finally be found on a heap of garbage unwanted in the near future. His wife will still have screamed in labor, but what is that to him but water that will never flow under his bridge again?
Sad, sad, cult member. No one thinks you can act, honey, we never did. We only went to your movies when you understood that all we cared about were your boyish good looks. Good luck, dear, you are OLDER than the hills now.

The word OCCULT is the Latin term for hidden. It simply
means hidden from view or understanding.
The word cult, means a secret society. A cult is a group
you never even hear about until something crazy happens.
Like the Heavens Gate people who all commited suicide to
meet an alien space ship that was supposed to be behind a comet.

no it is not an "occult". occult simply means hidden.
you mean "a cult". hell yes it is. research it on the net - it is bizarre.
now we can all argue that ALL religions, as opposed to spirituality, are cults. but scientology is reserved a space unto itself.

You mean cult. Occult means "hidden". As to whether or not it is, it depends upon what your definition of cult is.

Well, according to the definition of "occult", I would have to say that no, it isn't.
A cult is a particular system of religious worship. So, it would fit into that category.

by the definition of a cult: 1 : formal religious veneration : 2 : a system of religious beliefs and ritual; also : its body of adherents
3 : a religion regarded as unorthodox or spurious; also : its body of adherents; then ALL religion is of the occult.
