I love all types of dogs, but anyone thinking of adopting should adopt from the SPCA. It is cheaper than a breeders or a pet store, and the dogs are more in need of homes. Look in your local phone book for a phone number under dogs, or SPCA.

I love all types of dogs, but anyone thinking of adopting should adopt from the SPCA, shelters or rescues. It is cheaper than a breeders or a pet store, and the dogs are more in need of homes. Look in your local phone book for a phone number. Also, a great way to help is to volounteer, and when I volounteered at the SPCA it was very fun and they needed the help.

I've noticed lots of people are recommending shelters. Thank you! Dogs need loving homes.

tigerpat66 and sweet2006-thank you especially! I will talk to the shelters you have both recommended. You seem like good people and I'm sure you have a dog, but if you don't, I can arrange free abandoned puppies for you both and any people wanting dogs. Go to www.freewebs.com/adopt_a_dog_today23

I love Dachshunds! As far as adopting a pet goes, ASPCA or the Humane Society are good places to start, but there are A LOT of dogs, cats, etc... that were left behind after Katrina, and need loving homes. Try "Best Friends.org" to locate a shelter that will work with your area SPCA/Humane Society to place a Katrina animal in your home... most are scared and just need a lot of TLC, but they are being put to sleep because there is "no more room at the inn" so to speak.

My favorite breed of dog is the Cairn Terrier. I have a female 2 years old, she was a pleasure to train as she was very eager to learn. She is very playful and very smart. A very hardy dog who is great with children, adults and other dogs. I Love my dog and Highly recommend a Cairn Terrier. I would also recommend finding a reputable breeder for any type of pure bred. Your local animal shelters are in desperate need of loving people to ADOPT a needed Animal.

I agree. Rescue is the way to go. There are so many dogs out there waiting for someone to love them. If they dont find a home, unfortunately they usually get euthanized. I love dogs, however I have fell in love with the American Pit Bull Terrier and staffy breed. a good website to go to if you are looking for a dog is www.petfinder.com. you can type in your zip code and find many dogs waiting for your love.

Looks like you answered your own question! I'm partial to mini-dachshunds, but they, as in all breeds, can be found needing homes. Just look on the net at dogster.com or in your local shelters/papers.

we have 3 dogs..... a west highland terrier, a kerry blue and a wee terrier we got form the dog home

now..... the wee terrier is just great a real plesent dog, loves walks and swimming, the westie is lazy alough a great wee dog to have but the kerry blue hmmmmmmmm dont buy one, they are real fighters with other dogs, it hates my westie infact its true to say it would kill it if given the chance, we have to keep them seperate the westie is old and not fit for the kerry blue,

so my advice is choose wisely, a small terrier is a great house dog lab's are big and cast lots of hair

happy choosing
