The other one will probably grieve. Now- animals tend to know when something isn't right, so the one left might not be hit so hard. But he will need a lot of loving and attention.
Animals, like people, vary in how they deal with their grief. Some start misbehaving badly. Others will adopt little habits that the dead one used to have, or sleep in the places the dead one used to sleep. Or play with their toys. I even know a dog who would sometimes visit the graves of the family cats who had died.
I'm sorry to hear about your cat. Feel better, and good luck.

If you go to: www.spiritessence.com you can read about Dr. Jean Hovfe's remedies for cats. She has one called "Loss Remedy". A bottle costs $16.95, no shipping, handling or taxes.
You simply shake the bottle very well and apply three or four drops to the fur between the animals ears as much as four times a day. Directions come with the bottle.
These remedies are amazingly effective and will help heal the emotional distress caused by your cat's loss of his lifetime friend.
Inespensive, easy to use, and effective. You can't do any better than that.
Good luck with your kitty.

i just went through this same thing back in March. the living cat will definately mourn the loss. i gave mine extra attention and occasionally some tuna fish. i never tried to replace the other and after six months, she's doing fine. a pain in the butt sometimes, always under foot, but a good kitty. hope this helps. sorry for your loss.

He will probably become withdrawn and sleep a lot. You must comfort him as much as possible, with love. Or perhaps get another kitten for him to bond with. Sometimes adult cats will not bond. But most will bond with kittens.
The cat will be confused and will suffer. But don't kill him for that. Rather, love him more.

He is going to miss his friend...I guaruntee that! My siamese missed my kitty oz when he ran away.
Make sure you give him lots of love and attention. He is going to need it. He might not be as active as he normally is.
Maybe after the ordeal you and your kitty friend are going through is over (even though you always will miss your kitty, dearly) you could get a kitten.
I hope you and your kitty will be okay! Hugs!

if the other cat had a collar then leave it lay around so when he feels lonely he can play with it. chances are that he'll carry it around a little bit. give him lots of attention to show him that you still love him lots.
