I have 11 girls on my volleyball team and 5 of them will not be at our tournament because they want to play in their soccer tournament. Of course, they are my 5 best players. Do I sit the 5 out of the next game (well, let them play a little so the parents don't kill me) and let the 6 that are going to be there play or do I keep playing them as I have? I don't think that it is fair for the 6 who are likely to continue playing up through high school to not get as much playing time when they can continue to grow and want to play the sport.

These girls have never been on a losing team in any sport. Can I sacrifice the wins to help the girls that will continue playing the sport past next year get better and have a better shot at making the high school and select team?

I would play the girls who are going to be in the tournament. that way, they'll get better and your team will be better. plus, it gives them that oppurtunity they might not otherwise have. Liebe und Frieden.

Just being better players should not entitle them to playing time; playing time is earned by showing commitment to the success of the team, and if those players choose another team (even if it's a different sport), they obviously did not choose the success of your team. So I'd bench them and teach them a lesson about team sports.

You should just not start them. If you know your team is good enough maybe sit them for the first game, but then let them finish the match.
