Nothing weird about that. During the day, there are background noises all around and not just from within the house but also in the immediate surroundings. Hence, it would appear that the sound volume of your tv is quiet when actually, it is the interference of the external sounds that affect your reception of the tv sound.
At night, external or environmental sounds are minimal (you seldom hear any human activity anywhere, do you? and even the birds are asleep), hence your sense of hearing is far more attuned to the volume of the tv, hence it appears to you that the tv sound volume is extremely loud.

There's less ambient noise at night. You ears can't actually detect the amplitude of sound, they can only compare the difference in amplitude of the sounds around you. During the day, 15 is only slightly louder than the noise around you, so it sounds quiet, but at night there's no other sound, so it's a lot louder than the noise around you, so it sounds loud.

It is to do with the ambient level of sound in your surroundings. at night there is less human activity therefore less noise and the same volume level is "perceived" louder by our ears and brain. Try this with headphones on the train when it is moving. Set the volume to as loud as you can with out hurting your ears and notice that when you exit the train the sound will be uncomfortable.

Because in general all background noise people out side etc tend to stop at night so eveything seems louder. Plus during the day with all the hustle and bustle you really dont pay as much attention as you do in evening

There is more background noise during the day so a day 15 would be a night 5 when there is less background noise.

There are no other sounds usually late at night... so the TV doesn't have to compete with all the other sounds of busy day life...

Because the world in general is quieter at night, less traffic, less people talking etc.
So it appears that the sound is louder because it is easier to hear.

It's quieter outside at night, louder in the day, so you can hear the TV better at night. In other words, don't crank it after dark!
