Jessica, no it isn't - it's called self-harm, and you have to tell somebody. I imagine you do it when things are getting too much, or you feel a bit down? Does it make you feel better even though you feel bad for doing it? If you don't feel comfortable talking to somebody you know, how about a telephone helpline? Samaritans in the UK, or wherever you live's equivalent. There'll be support groups on the internet as well. They can guide you better than here, probably. It is an illness, but it's great that you are thinking of telling somebody, because you can get better. Good luck, and my heart goes out to you. Hari x

The intention makes it attempted suicide.

Yes you need help.

Even if you are not "trying" to kill yourself, you are cutting yourself? This is a common psychiatric disorder. You can get help. You are not alone.

Many people become "cutters" because they have a painful past. It is actually a self protective device usually. When a painful memory comes up the person can't get out of their head they turn to cutting on themselves. This releives the anxiety because when you are cut all you can focus on is the cut. Then the painful memory gets pushed to the back of the brain for a while.

This is a very serious condition, you need immediate help. It is often a compulsion. If you live with someone, or have a friend who can help you, give them all your cutting instruments. You cannot have them in your house.

No razor blades, no box cutters, no paint scrapers, no paring knives. Anything that you have, or might use to cut yourself hand over to your friend. They cannot be in the house with you.

If you have a bad "craving" grab a picture of you, and take a red perminant marker to it. Sometimes this can relieve the urge.

If you cannot escape the urge to cut yourself go to the emergency room or call 911, or call someone who will support you on the phone untill they can make it to your house.

You need medical help.

No, if you cut yourself just to cut it isn't attempted suicide. Yet at the same time, you can be commited to the mental hospital because you are a danger to yourself. Coming from someone who has cut before, it is time you stopped.

The only thing you are doing is avoiding a deeper issue that resides beneath your skin. You need to see a psychiatrist and get some help. They will help you end your feelings and urges to cut. Cutting will only leave you in more pain, guilt, and give you hideous scars.

Just so you know, my boyfriend tried to cut his wrist lightly just for attention and accidently cut too hard because the knife was sharper than he thought. Blood splurted everywhere and his wrist was cut wide open enough so you could see his tendons and flesh. I drove him to the hospital where they told him he was lucky he didn't lose use of his hand because his tendon was cut. Should you be so lucky never to have this happen you might visit the menal hospital.

Yeah.. that is considered attempting suicide because you did try to kill yourself.

You neeeed to get help. No point of doing that to yourself, it's only making matters worse. Trust me, I have plenty of friends and people who I know who do this. It's a serious medical problem and could result in things that are much worse.

Throw out all the blades. Just don't think about doing it. Do stuff that takes your mind off of them.

Make your life right. Be happy. Whatever it is that's making you do this, make things right so you won't feel the need to do it anymore.

I hope I helped annddd I hope you get better!

If you don't cut deep enough on purpose, and then ask someone's opinion, you are probably asking for help, or attention. If you are asking for help, go to your parents, a best friend, a counselor, or your Father/Pastor. If your looking for attention, well, your in the right spot. Just remember, everything always works out if you wait long enough. God is only testing you, and as of now, you are passing the test. Can't quit now.

And, my Wifes Father, my Father in Law, and a very good friend of mine committed suicide. One thing I can tell you is that he had a lot of people that loved him. It's too bad he didn't get to see his two Grandsons. He would have loved them. You don't just hurt yourself, when you hurt yourself. So, if guilt is the only reason you don't follow through with it, that is reason enough.

Superficial (surface) cutting is considered just that, cutting. This is usually done as a release of anxiety or aggression, and causes great relief in the individual. Some, however, may refer to it as a suicidal gesture, or a call for help.

I would strongly advise contacting a psychologist who will help you to work on the feelings you have that trigger you to cut. Please, don't cut any deeper than you are, and if possible, reduce cutting if stopping isn't possible right now.

If you are trying to cut just to cut, then it isn't technically a suicide attempt, but you have a major issue that requires medical attention. If you cannot tell your parents, for whatever reason, talk with a school counselor asap, for your health and well being. Good thing you have friends who care so much for you!

You need to talk to someone and get help. GET HELP NOW! Yes it is still considered an attempted suicide if it is not deep enough.

Umm...yes, it is attempted suicide. You attempted to cut yourself deep enough, but did not succeed. Truthfully, you should tell someone, but if the blade is "calling to you" I don't think you'd rat yourself out.

Any self inflicted bodily harm is just that. If you succeed it is self murder. Nothing is calling out to you. It's in your head and you have to beat it. In these times I'm surprised there aren't more attempts. Don't do it. Understand? My e - mails by the name, click that on and drop me a line if you need someone to talk to, alright?
