The most basic qualification in most states is to have a bachlors in elementary or early childhood education. Though many states are starting to require a masters degree. But if you already hold a bachlors degree, you may only need to take some classes at the graduate level to obtain your degree. You need to check with your states board of education for exact qualifications and degrees required.

I'm a senior in early childhood education... I'll be licensed to teach from birth to 8 years old. That is a bachelor's degree. I'm not sure where you are from, but I am pretty confident that you need at least a bachelor's degree (4 year) to teach kindergarten. Also, you have to take mandated tests (3 in Wisconsin) and pass them before you can become certified. Preschool is different, you can teach in a daycare up through age 4 here with three courses.

State's differ about what you need to qualify for K. Remember, public schools require a state certification, while many private schools/day care centers do not.

Most early elementary educators have a BA degree in liberal arts or education and have taken and passed the State Test for certification (elementary education content knowledge.) Then there is mandatory student teaching (in a public school) and mentoring if applicable.

Above all, you need to have patience, be creative and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE what you do!!
