I had it when I was 15. My mother thought it was measles so we waited for it to go away so by the time I saw the doctor it was pretty bad and very itchy. It is treatable by a doctor and the treatment I had (injections and creams) started to work immediately. You don't have to suffer with this, though you do have to follow the regime of creams and cleansing very thoroughly. It isn't infectious.

Finally, a question I really want to answer. Thanks.

I work in a pharmacy (im a dispenser) and would recommend gentle bathing, mild lubricants or creams, or mild hydrocortisone creams (hydrocortisone 1% - you can buy it over the counter) which may be used to soothe inflammation. Oral antihistamines may reduce itching. Aqueous cream is quite good as well.

Moderate sun exposure or ultraviolet light treatment may help speed resolution of lesions. Obviously just be careful not to burn you skin.

I know how unpleasant this can be, its not very common for it to recurr though, you must be one of the unlucky ones.

Are you taking any other medication for anything else? This can cause it to flare up. Any herbal remedies, herbal tea, things like that?

i hope you get something sorted, your doctor can prescribe steroids but really as a last resort, try some of the above first.

All the best.

xx

No known reason for it some people think it is a nervous condition, starts with a patch somewhere on the body then spreads. I had it a few years ago doctor said same thing luckily mine cleared up after a month or so. If your keeps coming back then maybe its not pitiryasis-rosea. Have you thought about trying Chinese medicine

Some products you can try to make it more manageable.

Drinking a mineral water called Willow water can help if drunk daily.
Skinsure products can create a barrier on your skin to reduce infection, keep moisture in, so you don't itch and scratch.
Hemp cream products from the bodyshop are good at moisturising the dry areas.
Carex bath wash has been know to work well.
Products containing Witchhazel or Tee-tree oil can help, but check label & test patch first.
Plus sometimes stress can cuse flare ups but sunshine and sea water will clear it up.
All the above methods are from natural ingedients except the Carex bath wash.

Pityriasis rosea (PR) is a viral infection of the skin. The virus enters through the respiratory system. you might have some sore throat or cold like symptoms before the rash appears. The rash normally stays for 4-6 weeks and disappears on its own. If your rash hasnt subsided... chances are that its not PR.
Treatment for PR includes antihistamines like benadryl and claritin, topical application of hydrocortisone cream and very rarely antibiotics ( if it gets secondarily infected) or short course of oral steroids( too many lesions)

just go through these pages and confirm that your rash looks like this... if not meet a dermatologist... you could have something else.

I have no idea if there is any treatment for it but I do know of a make up which covers absolutely anything. Its called Sheer Cover, it goes on like a powder and leaves your skin completly flawless looking.
