As with many questions, there is no good answer to this question. There were lots of reasons why Israel was created. Weather they were good or not depends on your point of view.
The rest of the world didn't want them, and they wanted to be there, so for them and for the governments that didn't want them it was right.
For the fledgling nations of the middle east it was right too. The boarders in the Middle East are a very 20th century manifestation. After WWII, powerfull leaders in these new countries needed a way to unite the peoples who now found themselves citizens of a country instead of a region. The new Israel was the perfect vehicle for unification. It was something that all the tribes could have as a common enemy. Nationalism grew.
Since then, meddling from the outside has made things much worse and it no longer matters if the decision was 'right' or 'wrong'. History is a past the middle east has to let go of.
Respond if you want to continue this.

George Marshall, the United States top General of the time, who was behind the entire logistical reorganization of the entire US military for World War II, even stated that he too was against the creation of the Israeli state. This was bad for many reasons, but mostly because it would cause future conflict in the region for the post-Pearl Harbor U.S. He technically was right (I.E. Current Events).
Obviously the Jewish people had the greatest genocide known to man, done to their people by the Nazis. But aside from this, there was no real point in creating an Israeli state as the ignorance of Western Nations, only furthered the demise of relations between the west and the eastern powers. With their will to do "good," those who created the Jewish state only wrought more pain for future generations.
Seperating a people from their homes in society among different nations is the same as segregation, just on a more "humane" level than the Nazis and the pre-Civil Rights movement United States. Israel should not be it's own state and the holy land should be a free land for ALL individuals to travel to...

It was the Jewish homeland.
"Palestine" was the name given to one of the Jewish regions governed by the Romans. The Jews were often rebellious against Roman rule so the Romans gave it that name to insult the Jews since the Philistines were their historical enemies.
It was sometime later that invaders drove the Jews out and Muslims took over.
