Your dog just loves you. If you don't like it, you shouldn't have a pet. It probably just wants your attention and love.

Your dog is looking for reassurance. When he follows you talk to him and tell him you're not leaving and that you love him. He is also looking for activity. Most dogs like to have jobs especially if he comes from a "working" breed. I would consider a really great toy. Perhaps a Kong with some food inside or a stuffed animal with a squeaker in it to carry around.
When you do leave him tell him that you are going out and will be back. Also give him a command such as "watch the house/apartment".

More information about your dog would be helpful. Is he merely following you around the house or yard? Or does he try to follow you when you leave the house?
If he follows you around the house, that's good. Let him. Dogs are social animals. He needs play time with you. But he also just needs "time" with you. Just to be where you are.
If he wants to follow you when you leave, you need to train him to stay at home. Try "Good Owners, Great Dogs," by Brian Kilcommons.

You are obviously part of his pack. This is normal. My dog follows me everywhere too, which is fine with me. If you really have a problem with your dog following you everywhere, perhaps a dog isn't the right pet for you.
The only thing I ever had to train to stop following me around was a boyfriend (now an ex).

He loves you. My dog followed me in circles as I mowed the lawn everytime. When I hosed the yard he was right there under foot.
You will get use to it. And you will miss it when he is gone.
Just pack behavior.

He follows you because you're the leader of the pack. This is what dogs do.....you really don't want to stop him.
He sounds like a good doggie.

He/she follows you everywhere because he loves you more than anything and wants nothing more than to be with you every moment he/she can. Sounds hokey but its true! I have 2 dogs & one does the same with me. I have not broke her of it entirely but what helped alot was to tell her what I was going to do. For example: stay, be back in a minute, going to .... check the mail or whatever. With my dog it was seperation anixety & insucurey. Talking to her alot & teaching her "in a minute" (to wait an unspecified amount of time) was what helped for me.

Is it just me, or did your question just spawn the song "Mary had a little lamb" in readers heads.
Dogs take up with their master, they never want to be away from their master so they will follow you. I really don't have a solid answer for detouring him away from following you. You may try getting a rolled up newspaper and just threatening him with it when he tries to follow you or use a squirt bottle of water to squirt him as he tries to follow. Technically, he's just doing dogs nature. He's a dog, and within his little doggie world he looks up to you and never wants to be apart from you.

Your dog thinks,he´s the boss and he wants to control you.He wants to check everything,he´s selfish and fancies, that you might
eat something without share it with him.Find him a place in your
house, appartment, whatever, where he knows, this is HIS.Make him go back to this place when you leave the room. You must do
it again and again and again. You need patience and, very important, perseverance, and you NEED to be consequent.Of
course,he will try to trick you out,but you must tell and show him, that YOU are the leader of the pack. When he stays at his place without barking or any other form of "protest" feed him a little. He must know,he only gets food when he obeys to your
orders.NO BED,NO COUCH,NO BEGGING when you´re at
the table having breakfast, lunch or dinner! He must "work" for his food.Food is his reward for his behaviour.Practice it
consequently, you´ll see it works (experience of my own)
Good luck.
