Listen to a hotel industry executive and end all doubt!!! "Run of the house" simply means that if you book this "type" of room, the hotel will/can put you into whatever room category they choose when you arrive at the hotel. Usually you will get a standard hotel room, but it is possible to be upgraded to a higher room category.
Be nice to the people checking you in, they have a LOT of latitude as far as what room type they assign you to if the resort/hotel is not full. They know what rooms face the "view" or the parking lot, etc. etc. I travel about 200 nights a year and can tell you that a friendly smile and understanding attitude WILL get you nicer rooms, views, amenities, etc

Whatever they have available at time of check-in. Ussualy run of the house room are associated with lowest rates. Either that, or when a hotel is very full they will give you a run of the house room.

Ussualy its never a problem unless they are almost sold out. The you could end up in room you would normally not want.
