Or are there any long-term things I should be aware of that comes with cracking your knuckles?

You'll probably get answers on both sides. But I did have a very experienced medical doctor tell me last week that cracking knuckles and joints does not do any damage to them. The popping sound is the release of the liquid in the joint, and the body quickly replaces it, before any damage can be done from the joint not being lubricated. There's nothing damaging about it.

Also the same doc told me that most if not all arthritis is caused by one's genetic makeup - if you're destined to get it, you will, whether you pop your knuckles or not.

I heard all my life that cracking your knuckles would make them big. Then, a few weeks ago, there was a documentary on TV that said the popping sound comes for tiny bubbles of air trapped in the joints and that cracking your knuckles was harmless.

yes there is but you will not realize it until you get older...one thing it makes your knuckles real big...which does not look good especially if you are a woman...but i did not know when i was young that cracking your knuckles could do so much harm...it is hard to get a ring over your knuckles...and the joints hurts at times...so i would advise you to get out of the habit of cracking your knuckles....

I was always told when i was young that i'd get arthritis in my fingers from cracking my knuckles. At age 44 now my fingers are getting stiff and it's hurts to crack them. I"m not sure if that's what caused it but i think it didn't help any.
