Try to use WindowsUpadate at Windowupdate.com, and if it doesn't say your serial number isn't genuine or you can't restart, then it genuine.

You should be at the system32 folder.
Type del wgatray.exe and then hit enter. (This will delete it)
Delete WgaTray.exe from c:\Windows\System32\dllcache by typing the following:
cd c:\windows\system32\dllcache
Type del wgatray.exe and then hit enter. (This will delete it)
Type exit and hit enter and restart your computer to get to normal Windows Mode.
Launch RegEdit by going to start menu, then go to Run and type regedit.
Browse to the following location:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mi...
Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Not...
Delete the folder ‘WgaLogon’ and all its contents
Reboot Windows XP.
Make sure that you go to Control Panel and then Security. Disable your automatic update
and set it up so that the computer has to manually ask you to do the microsoft update.
Then next time the update comes up, just ignore it or bypass it
this has been available on yahoo answers for a long time now

WGA is not only a 'validation tool', it is serious spyware!
Microsoft has deactivated every attempt to validate other ways.
Being that Microsoft is the un-disputed monopolist pirate, convicted felon, and loser of 360+ lawsuits for theft, you'll get no pardon from them, says Billy Gates, the head Pirate!
they just switched the last parts of their systems and computers (everything on Redmond campus, too!) over to Linux in 2005.
Microsoft.com, MSN.com, and Hotmail.com all run on 45,000 Linux computers.

Go here
http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/default.mspx?displaylang=en
Then click "Validate Windows" (using Internet Explorer) and install the program. It is not (as far as I could tell) a windows update but it is something you have to install.
