ok. listen to me. first of all the real value of a person is inside. you know that. what you have to do is make a small change, and add one every week. like, no more cokes. no more chips. that's not a lot to ask. if you can't do that, buy a roll of ducttape.

If you are unhappy with yourself, sweetie, and you want to look and feel better, perhaps you should speak to your Mom and discuss your concerns. I am sure she would completely understand. Perhaps she can make an appointment and take you to your doctor so that he or she can determine if you are the proper weight for your age. This would depend on how tall you are, your body type and whether you are small, medium or larged boned. These things make a huge difference because we all are different. Someone can be 5' 5" tall, small boned and very thin, yet another girl could be the same height but have bigger bones and a different body type than her friend - and look heavier - and yet be a perfect weight for her frame. If you are overweight the doctor can help your mother address this nutritionally. Remember, you are still growing and your body will change the older and taller you get.

PS: My older brother was chubby as a teenage boy of 13, while I - even though I am female - was always slender and small boned. My parents were worried about his weight since most members of our family were fairly slim and above average height. Meanwhile, when he turned 16 he shot up to 6'2" tall and lost all the weight! At 58 years of age now, he is still slim - older yes and not as slim as he was as a teenager, but still slim for his age!

Good luck and don't give up!

It is not being fat that will ruin your life. It is THINKING that you are fat that will ruin your life. There's nothing wrong with trying to eat right and exercise, of course, but if you obsess about your weight and focus on it more than anything else and keep going on diets that fail, you'll be worse off than if you had just accepted the weight in the first place (that's been shown by medical studies too).

No one here can boost your self esteem or make you feel better about yourself. Only you can do that.

A few thoughts:
1. At 13, your body is still developing and growing. Be patient. Not a good time to diet unless directed to by a doctor.

2. Remember, say to yourself like a mantra, that TV and magazine pretty people images pounded into your brain are LIES. They are airbrushed, chemically altered, false, rare, and dishonest. That's NOT what you're supposed to look like or act like.

3. Being "attractive" has little to do with what you look like. It has more to do with confidence and being active, believing in yourself. (Also proven by some "official" studies that have been done)

Heyy, don't feel so bad! If your friends are good people, they wouldn't care about your weight or your physical appearance! It's okay, I know that a lot of girls out there can relate to you; this is an issue that a lot of people deal with. Well, I suppose that there are two things that you can do ... Either change your attitude, or lose some weight. I know that both are hard, and I'm not expecting for you to do either one overnight or in unhealthy ways ... Just try to eat healthier and exercise a bit more; even if you don't drop pounds magically overnight, it will make you feel better, as well as giving you an energy boost. Your body's something you need to embrace, especially as a girl. Beauty's not only skin-deep, and you probably are being a bit hard on yourself. Try taking up a new hobby/activity, and try to wear more flattering and comfortable clothes. Definitely don't try to squish yourself into jeans that are sizes too small, it will only make you feel worse. Remember that pinstripes can elongate your body, cropped jackets can make your waist appear smaller, full skirts diminish large thighs, and flutter sleeves are a cute way to cover up thicker arms.

You are at a very stressful time of life, and one where your body is undergoing many changes. Just remember that the models you see on TV and in the magazines may be super thin, but they are not at a healthy weight either. If you truly are in an "overweight" category, and don't just feel that you are "overweight" because of all the skinny images you see, examine your diet and make certain that you are eating plenty of healthy foods and cut back on the bad stuff. The safest way to diet is just by simply cutting calories and eating healthier.
