Depends what is causing it, I have been suffering with lower back pain and get sciatica on and off, for the last 12 years.

Each sciatica episode lasts about 2 weeks for me.

Mine can start by bending, pushing a shopping trolley, lifting. As you can imagine I can't avoid some of these things.

If you can work out what caused it you can up to a point avoid it again.

I know some people who get sciatica for a couple of days and then it goes. Others get it longer than me.

I hope yours goes soon.

Ouch! You don't say how long you've been plagued with sciatica, but I know that it can take several months to resolve. Nerve damage takes longer to heal than muscle damage so try not to aggravate it, take it easy and let nature take its course.

You might want to try a form of bio-feedback: listening to preferred music or a favorite book on CD while in a relaxed position to help relieve the discomfort. Some also say that acupressure/acupuncture are helpful.

I know how you feel as I suffer from a bad back and some days it is worse than others! I was told it is better to be on the move rather than lying flat on a bed and I do find this helps me from getting too stiff. I take pain medication which helps to a degree but find most of them make me drowsy so only tend to take them of an evening. I do sympathise with you and hope you get better soon!

I've had it on and off for years to be honest I think once you've got it never really goes away it just comes and goes.I went to doctors and got volterol tablets on presciption and only other thing I do to ease the syptoms when it's bad is apply some heat to my lower back to ease the discomfort.

Depends on what causes it, if you have a postural problem then until that is resolve you will always have a problem

Try something like the Alexander Technique which will help you understand what you are doing and help you correct it
