Just my humble opinion but if you can wait till after Christmas do so. You do not want to ship say.....Nov. 20th because you will arrive at Basic and then be forced to turn around and go home after 2 weeks for 2 weeks of Christmas leave then come back. It is better to do Basic uninterrupted. Plus they will charge you for 14 days of leave and you will not have any leave built up so technically you will be in "the hole" which is a nice military term for owing the Army vacation days. You never want to be in this situation. To answer your original question, yes, you can ship at a later date, it is called the Delayed Entry Program and tell your recruiter up front that you need to ship a few months from now. They can sign you up and and as long as you ship within 364 days you are fine. Tell them up front, if they don't ask when you want to ship. They do have a quota and it is done monthly. They need to schedule you in the right month or they can miss mission and they get pissy!!

Yes, just make sure when you read your contract that it states your reporting date after Nov 14th. They don't have you until you sign your contract and I believe you can still back out if you do the delayed entry program. On the day you leave for basic you sign a contract discharging your from delayed entry and enter into the enlistment program, or your actual enlistment. And when you go through MEPS and get your job assignment, I know for Air Force, you can ask for the job you want, if they don't give it to you then tell tell them to call you when a slot opens and you will come back and sign the paperwork. Then get up to leave. That is how my husband got his job. Magically his job just happened to pop up in the computer. So that is how he got his job that he has been in for the last 10 years and LOVING it!

Good luck in your career! I hope it's a great time for you, but I would recommend looking at the Air Force.

Probably, talk with the recruiter about it. Whole process takes a bit of time anyway, then there's when they'll have room for you in basic, just make sure before you sign on the dotted line on that contract, it says AFTER nov 14th.

I'm sure the recruiter wouldn't mind, he'd just be happy your joining.
It would be a different story if you had already done your paperwork though because they own you then, they tell you what to do not the other way around.

Yes it's called delayed enlistment. A recruiter will do any thing they can to help you join and if it means delaying your enlistment they will sign you up for as much as a year before you have to go in.

Talk to a recruiter, but beware. They need people and they will tell you whatever they have to to get your signature. Once you have signed the dotted line, though, they can renege on any verbal promises, pretty much. Once you sign, you are theirs and you don't have much recourse. I won't even ask why you'd want to join the Army, but believe me I know what I'm talking about....

It is possible depending on your reason, I suppose. Talk to your recruiter. We were sort of in that situation and my husband told them he needed more time because we were about to get married and they worked with us.
