I am in Italy, and was looking to bring some bottles of wine back to Canada. can anyone recommend some good Italian wines (as well as the best year) and what they would cost in the US or Canada. Thanks for your help.

My personal favorites Both about $50.00 in British Columbia.
Prices vary from province to province.

SYRAH SICILIA - PLANETA 01/02
SKU #11254 / UPC #08020735000214

CHIANTI CLASSICO RISERVA - RUFFINO DUCALE GOLD LABEL00/01
SKU #512517 / UPC #08001660130054

Here's a couplle of sites you can look up wines you have access to. One for British Columbia prices and Gismondi on Wine lists several prices from different regions. A bit of warning though, I find his prices are a bit over actual retail prices.

My God! Italy has thousands of good wines! Just buy a couple of bottles of wines you have much enjoyed at meals. Remember that Canada customs is tough on charging duty. You are only allowed 2 bottles duty free; although I am usually allowed an extra bottle I have had occasions when Canada customs charged me (unlike in the States where you can usually get several extra bottles allowed as long as you declare them); it has always been a female customs officer who played tough!.

Generally, a bottle of wine will cost about the equivalent of $CDN 5
less in most of the USA than it costs in Ontario, about $CDN 6 less than in Quebec, which is the amount of difference in tax and duty between the two countries.

My favorite Italian wine is Moscato D'Asti. It's a very sweet (like a dessert wine, but not as thick), white sparkling wine. Don't spend more than $25-30 (US) per bottle, and you can probably find a good one for around $10-12.

Brunello di Montalcino is an excellent wine from Southern Tuscany. It's expensive here and relatively cheap in Italy. Get a reserva with the pink DOCG label on the neck. Since you're there, take advantage and taste to find what you like.

Here is a site to explore vintages:
