Geeze, haven't thought of that for the past 30 years or so. But, to the best of my recollection, this was done with an M-1 by the way, the left hand is holding the stock down by the receiver.

Actually the left hand is cupped around the forearm of the m-4/m16 series rifles

I dont think so! It is done in one move from the ground! From the shoulder a little different! When you carry the flag in an honor guard your arm is parallel to the ground, so you do have to rotate yoer left hand!
