I absolutely think that they have screwed themselves by their weak stance on illegals. They could have salvaged the whole election just by thaking a pro-USA stance on Immigraiton. Instead they not only look like traitors, but now, weak traitors. Not very electable

This is one of those rare issues that splits both parties down the middle.

Neither one wants to touch it anywhere near an election year, and I think with good cause - just look at the bitter anger coming from both sides on this.

In Washington, doing nothing is always safer than doing anything, and this is doubly true in even-numbered years. So I don't think it's a bad move for them. Heck - they couldn't decide what to do anyway - Bush agreed with the Democrats!

I believe the immigration issue is one of the most important issues facing America, the only problem is the Republicans have been just as asleep at the wheel as the Democrats so I do not see them gaining an advantage.

All the D.C. wussies think there is nothing more important than getting elected, but they screwed the pooch on this one. I believe that the majority of legal immigrants are all for border enforcement. I think most of them resent the illegals who illegally took what they waited for.

Everytime immigration comes for a vote it gets pushed aside "until next year" or a watered down version is passed.

Its like abortion, you might talk about it, but no one who wants to get re-elected (and thats all of them), will ever do anything about it.
