I read a very good book about depression. It says those negative thoughts are coming from our "inner negative child," and we can't let them take over. Here are the condensed steps to counter the depression:
1. recognize when you're having negative thoughts
2. recognize what the negative thought is about: your friends? your grades, your lifestyle??
3. formulate a response to your "inner negative child" that is the opposite of what he's saying to you. If he says nothing is fun, you say (outloud) Life is fun! and make yourself get up and do something that you use to consider fun, like playing tennis (for me)
4. you have to really stay on top of this because negativity can eat up your life very quickly. You must stay away from negative people; misery loves company!
5. finally, make yourself smile, even if you're feeling down. The physical act of smiling causes specific hormones to be released that make you feel better.
6. remember to think about all the things you have in life: all your limbs, a working mind that allows you to think and analyze, your environment is probably better than many around the world. Try to focus on what's good, not what's bad.

Im sure the happiest person in the world must feel as you and everyone else does at times. Keeping things(life)in perspective requires focus. When people lose focus they lose interest in things around them. Take a time-out and restore focus. Meditation works. I saw a book Yoga for depression or words similar. I strongly advise this to help you regain focus.

i've been dealing with depression for two years now... any advice....? hm... i'll tell you to look on the bright side but that doesn't always work... the bright side makes me frustrated and angry... try to talk to somebody about it? i dunno... if you're the social type, sure... talk it out... get a shrink and meds? you could try that if you're that desperate... yeah, i know, not much help... good luck on it though!
