Ditto on the freemason answer. You can read Rule by Secrecy by Jim Marrs, and apply the same stuff to S & F's as the freemasons, but this is like going to McDonald's and kicking the mop handle out of the floor cleaner's hands because you don't like corporate imperialism. If you are that hardcore about fighting the system, don't join a greek club, but I think you are going a little overboard and sort of barking up the wrong tree. Most of this is just college kids who want to get drunk and l@id, ya know?

Try googling it.
Cults is not listed in my concordance - I looked just for you. you have to decide for yourself what is in your best interest and if anything you might do with in a sorority or frat would leave you with regrets. Some are super community organizations others are like Animal House, not something I would personally recommend.

Cults misguide or misdirect a person's devotion.
Matthew 6:33, "But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." The "all these things" are your material needs.
Luke 9:23-27, Luke 14:25-33 - dedication to Jesus must be our first priority every day, hating everything else in comparison.
True believers continually devote themselves to Jesus through the Bible, fellowship with believers, communion and prayer - Acts 2:42, Hebrews 10:23-25
There are normally bodily afflictions that a person is subjected to when joining a cult. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 speak against misuse of the body (specifically sexual misuse but it extends beyond that as well).
Some require you to remove yourself from you family. Ephesians 6:1-3 commands children to obey their parents. Ephesians 5:22-33 commands wives to submit to husbands and husband to love their wives as Christ loves the church. It is also reinforced that the two become one (from Genesis 2). There is no closer relationship than husband and wife except Lord and Savior to believer.
These and many others speak against anything that goes against God's will. There is even the added point that Romans 13 tells us to submit to the government (so long as they do not tell you to violate God's law). Our obedience to God must be our primary focus.

I don't have any books but I used to work for a sorority and my opinion is that too much loyalty or devotion to any group and/or person, is dangerous. Not to mention all the secrecy. It's almost like brainwashing.

The same stuff against Freemasonry probably applies to sororities and fraternities.

There is nowhere in the Bible that teaches one not to join any organization. Men of the cloth talk against it because they fear they will lose your support and not be as dedicated as you could be to their ministry, or even to God. Once your name is written in the book of life and you witness, only what you don't do will remove your name from the rolls. Sad isn't it that God doesn't support the fears of mans assigned leaders?
