The reason why Jews and Muslims don't eat pig (and originally Christians, as it says in the Bible not to eat pig but people don't follow that anymore) is because they eat their own fesces. Kind of gross, isn't it? They are one of the least sanitary animals in the world. That may the same reason why calling someone a pig is considered a bad thing.

Pig isn't the only animal used as an insult. Dog, cow, heifer are also insults. And we eat pigs because ham and bacon is good!

WE EAT PIGS BECAUSE THEY TASTE SO GOOD. A PIG IS A VERY CLEAN ANIMAL, THEY WILL NOT GO IN THEIR LIVING AREA, ALWAYS AWAY FROM THEIR SLEEPING AREA. THEY MIGHT LOOK ALL MUDDY BUT THEY KNOW THAT'S HOW TO GET AND STAY COOLER IN THE SUMMER. I THINK IT'S A HABIT WITH PEOPLE CALLING EACH OTHER PIGS, THEY DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT.

It started in the Middle East. Pigs were calle unclean in Jewish and Moslem traditions. The custom might even have been inherited from even more ancient times.

Being called chicken is an insult.

It's no compliment to be called a shrimp.

Even some plants are insults. Would you like to be called a pansy?

A chicken is a name for a cowardly person. (And yes, people do eat chicken).
