Is it because the our blood flows to our stomach, in order to aid in digestion? (And hence, the bloodflow in our head decreases, thereby making us drowsy?)

It's funny, I was just talking about this last night with a friend. He said it is due to digestion, but also, that specific combinations of food take longer to digest, and therefore make us feel sluggish for a longer period of time.

Eating a starch and a protein as the majority of your meal will cause this. (Bye bye, meat n potatoes!) Protein combined with veggie, or starch combined with veggie, are the best combinations in order to not feel so sleepy afterward.

The body has a hard time doing more than one thing at a time. It takes a lot of work to digest a big meal. If you cut down on meat it will help.
